The Peer Mentor Club at our Tilton School proudly inspired the school to raise $1,250.72 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)!

The children announced a competition called “Pennies for Patients” – a fundraising campaign for the LLS. The children collected spare change throughout March, and each classroom came up with creative fundraising ideas to raise money, like selling handmade felted fortune cookies!

The mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is especially near and dear to one of our Teacher Assistants, Kelly Vivyan. Kelly shares, ” I joined this campaign in 2005 after my oldest brother was diagnosed with Leukemia. We have continued to take part in it each year since then. During the past 14 years that we have participated, I have lost my brother and watched other families lose loved ones to Leukemia and other cancers. A close friend of our family has a son who was diagnosed with childhood leukemia 11 years ago when he was 5. The course of treatment was a 3-year grueling ordeal with many setbacks. He is now 14 and cancer-free although there are residual effects that will last throughout his life. There is still much more research that needs to be done to save more lives. This year when I suggested to Ms. Roselli (Assistant Principal) that the peer mentors take on this project I never could have imagined how successful this would be!”
