"You always made me feel safe and guided me to make good decisions."

Last week, as "NJ", was preparing to leave our Residential Treatment Facility (RTF), she took a moment to reflect and write a note to our staff.

My name is NJ. I have been going through a lot. I ran away a million times, and I always tried to fight thoughts that came to mind. I have been to many places that could not help me, but then I stepped foot in the RTF program at The House, and my life improved immediately.

When I came into care, I was in a dark place until the staff brought light to my darkness. Mr. Reed would always tell me to do the right thing and would always make me smile. Ms. Brown would make me laugh and always gave me compliments. Ms. G told me to behave and always do my best. Mr. Slaughter told me I was a good person and was always there when I felt sad.

The staff that helped me are exceptional. They made me a better person. All of us kids are counting on you, with me included. We are strong at the House of the Good Shepherd. These staff members are heroes and make everybody's life feel special.

I am going to miss all the moments I spent in The RTF Program. I am proud of all the staff! Stay strong, even though I will be leaving. You always made me feel safe and guided me to make good decisions. Love you all.
