The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will report to the Recreation Department Manager. The basic function of the Rec.Spec. will be to develop,plan and document therapeutic recreation programs and interventions based on standardized clinical assessment of identified needs, which promotes learning,growth development and skill acquisition in the areas of gross motor, fine motor, socialization, cognitive and community integration programs.
Master's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation, with one year experience treating severely emotionally disturbed children, or a Bachelors degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a minimum of three years experience in treating severely emotionally disturbed children.
Current certification by the National Council Therapeutic Recreation Council, as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, or current registration by NCTRC for the RTF, highly preferred
for other residential programs.
Valid NYS Driver's License
The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist reports directly to the Recreation Manager and receives regularly scheduled supervision. S/he must coordinate the development and implementation of recreational activities with Child Care Workers, Program Supervisors and Assistant Directors. S/he must maintain a positive working relationship with all program supervisory support and direct care staff,children/families and community organizations/individuals. S/he is expected to maintain a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
